Ernie Fitzpatrick asked:

There’s a big debate in tinsle-town tonight and the TWO BIG GUNS get to square off at each other and I am sure they will. Hillary needs to regain some MO as in momentum. The uncontested win in Florida where no delegate seats were up for grabs didn’t get Hillary anything but a few minutes of TV exposure. The South Carolina landslide is still sliding for Barack Obama- even past the Ted Kennedy kudos!

If you wondered whether if the Barack-Star could compete for the Super Tuesday sweepstakes. Think no longer! $32,000,000.00 says he can!

Barack Obama raised $32 million in the single month of January, matching his best three-month period last year, aides said Thursday. The money positions Obama for the sweeping Feb. 5 primary contests, when 22 states will be in play for the Democratic nomination. Aides also announced that with their money they can now advertise in states beyond the Super Tuesday.

Obama is advertising in all but two of the Feb. 5 states and plans to begin advertising in states with upcoming contests, including Louisiana, Washington, Nebraska, Maine, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Campaign manager David Plouffe said the campaign attracted 170,000 new donors for a total of 650,000 donors overall.

“We think that the strength of our financial position and the number of donors does speak to financial sustainability if it ends up going through March and April,” Plouffe said of the race. “We think we will have the financial resources to conduct vigorous campaigns in the states to come.”

And one of those contributors came from Hillary’s home state of New York.

The late New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan threw his considerable political weight behind Hillary Clinton, helping her win her Senate seat from a state where she had never lived, but that hasn’t deterred his widow from backing Hillary’s rival Barack Obama for 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

In a statement e-mailed to David Axelrod, a senior adviser to Obama, Elizabeth B. Moynihan attributed her support for Obama to Caroline Kennedy Schlosberg’s Times Op-Ed article where JFK’s daughter endorsed Barack Obama, as well as her own displeasure with Bill and Hillary Clinton’s recent hostility toward Obama’s candidacy. You just never know what one person’s endorsement might bring.

Mrs. Moynihan wrote that her husband, who died in 2003, “would have become excited, as I have, to see Barack Obama rekindle hope in our young as he encourages them to participate in the political process, and I know Pat would approve, applaud and encourage me to join Caroline Kennedy in supporting Barack Obama’s candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president. It is a rare gift to be able to inspire people to share a vision that requires commitment and dedication.

Barack should be all smiles before the debate tonight. We’ll have to wait until the debate is over to see if he’s still smiling. With John Edwards out for the Democrats (and Rudy for the Republicans) the stage is really small now for tonights Democratic debate.

Eric Castro asked:

In Quito, the Capital of Ecuador, the enormous influence that the Spanish had in the origin of many Ecuadorian celebrations is most evident. During December Quito celebrates its “Spanish Foundation”, by the Conquistador Sebastian de Benalcazar on December 6, 1534. This was the second site where the city was founded - the first foundation was in August of the same year in Sicalpa, near the city of Riobamba.

One of the central events during this celebration is the bullfights, with the participation of more Spanish “matadors” than local ones. During the week of festivities Quito lives a Spanish fiesta, with flamenco dancers, manzanilla drinking, people wearing the typical Spanish hats to the bullfights and afterwards, enjoying long lunches with the most famous delicacies of the Spanish cuisine to delight local palates. This year, bullfights will take place between November 30 and December 6, 2005, at the Plaza de Toros of Quito.

The different “barrios” organize dancing in the streets - the largest events take place at Rodrigo de Chavez Street in the southern section of the city and in Shyris Avenue in the north. These are all-night events with orchestras playing Latin Music. People come in groups of friends or family, to socialize, listen to the music, dance and drink the famous canelazo, a hot drink with cinnamon and “firewater”.

Traditionally, parades take place in different areas of the city, with the participation of dancing groups of the schools of Quito and music bands. Many cultural events that keep the traditions of Quito alive take place during the week, like fireworks, poetry reading, recreation of legends and traditions, art exhibitions, food and traditional sweets festivals, folk dancing and much more take place the first week of December.

In the homes, families and groups of friends of all ages get together to play an Ecuadorian game of cards called “cuarenta” or forty, since it is played with 40 cards. The World Championship of Cuarenta takes place as one of the highlights of the festivity.

Throughout the week, open sided buses called chivas, originally from the Coast, take groups of friends who climb to the roof to party, singing, dancing and drinking, accompanied by music bands. Many chivas run along the streets of the city in this festive mood. The first week of December is a great time to be in Quito, come join the festivities!

Groshan Fabiola asked:

One Tree Hill star Sophie Bush has been recently spotted by the side of a new man, months after she separated from former husband and co-star Chad Michael Murray. People magazine reported that Bush has been hanging out in public with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who was also recently linked to American Idol champion, Carrie Underwood.

Romo used to ignore rumors about him and Underwood together, despite several paparazzi shots depicting them being more than just friends. Romo finally faced the media and put the matter to rest when he ended the relationship, primarily because of the football season. He basically wanted some time out to focus on his career.

The 27-year-old professional football player hails from San Diego , California and played college football at Eastern Illinois University . In 2003, he was recruited by Sean Payton into the Dallas Cowboys.

Bush and Romo were spotted together in Romo’s home state, Texas . They were first seen at N9Ne Steakhouse with some of the Dallas Cowboys, where patrons witnessed some physical friendliness between the two of them. This included back hugging and frequent petting.

The following day, the pair were spotted at Dallas Cowboys’ cornerback Terence Newman’s home, as they were checking out the new video game, Guitar Hero III. Unlike the other men, Bush did not participate in the video game excitement, but instead was content at watching Romo and his stage moves.

The question still lies: Are Romo and Bush officially together? So far, both parties have not answered this question, as representatives for both Bush and Romo declined to comment on their relationship. For now, we’ll have to be content with whatever the paparazzi is picking up. Taking into consideration the fate of the Underwood-Romo relationship, we have yet to find out if Bush can keep Romo’s eyes on her throughout the football season.

Mr. Man asked:

For history, you will create a mock conversation between the current President of China, Hu Jintao, and an American leader of your choice (Pres. Bush or Sens. Clinton, McCain or Obama). The conversation should include (1) American complaints about China’s human rights violations, suggestions as to how to “persuade” China to improve its record, and an analysis of the likelihood of success of these suggestions, (2) China’s defense of its actions, reaction to US suggestions for “improvement”, incorporating the Chinese view of the role/significance of the individual in a collective society, and (3) some discussion of the appropriateness of China as host of the 2008 Olympic Games. Your goal is to inform the audience, and to challenge them to think critically about the issues as you present them.
I am going to be Hu Jintao. Mostly for number 2 I really need help. Thanks in advance.

Getting Loans for Small Business

David Castro asked:

Businesses need cash to operate. Whether yours is a new or an existing business, you rely on a healthy cash flow to keep your business performing the way it should. Unfortunately, the cash is not always flowing the way it should. For those times you will need to know where you can find loans for small business.

The economy has a big impact on the financial health of any business. Sales might be booming, and the money is pouring into your business, then the economy turns, and that income can dry up very quickly. No income means a reduced cash flow. Over time, that reduced cash flow could drain any cash reserves the business may have built up. When that happens, it is necessary to find another source of temporary cash to get your business through.

For established businesses with a good credit history, obtaining a loan for small business is not typically that difficult. Chances are you already have established a relationship with a bank, and that will make it easier to get your loan. If you do not already have a relationship with a bank, it may take a little more effort to get your loan, but if your business is established, and your credit is good, most bankers will be willing to work with you.

If your business has not been in existence for very long, or if you have run into financial difficulties in the past, it may be a bit more difficult to get one of the loans for small business that are available. Rather than going through conventional channels, you may have to speak to a lender that specializes in unsecured loans.

These lenders will usually base the loan on existing credit card transactions. When you apply for the loan you will be required to show credit card transaction records for the previous three to six months. Once the credit is approved you will repay the loan by turning over a percentage of your credit card sales to the lender until the full amount of the loan is repaid.

There are two types of loans that are typically available to small businesses: lump sum loans, and line of credit loans. Lump sum loans are just what the name implies. When the loan is approved the total amount of the loan is transferred into your account in a lump sum. Interest begins accruing on the entire amount of the loan once the transfer occurs.

The second option that is available is to establish a line of credit. With this option an account is established, similar to a checking account. An agreed upon amount of money will be available to your business, and you can withdraw the money from the account as needed. This is a great option for businesses that will have ongoing need for cash, but they may not know exactly how much will be needed. They can withdraw as much or as little as they need, and the remaining balance will still be available to them when they need more money. A big advantage of this option is that your business only pays interest on the amount that is outstanding, rather than the entire amount available.

Being able to obtain loans for small business is sometimes the difference between success and failure for small businesses. Keeping the cash flowing means keeping the doors open.
