Jon T Norwood asked:

Hillary Rodham Clinton, the current Democratic front runner for the presidential nomination, again spoke out in favor of internet neutrality this month. With a discussed National Broadband Internet System, Senator Clinton claims she can expand the high tech sector and create much needed jobs.

Clinton proposes to use government aid to subsidize the private sector with incentives to move into areas that would normally be looked at as cost prohibitive such as poor urban areas and rural communities. The plan is called “Connect America” and of it Clinton says, “In the 19th century, we invested in railroads. In the 20th century, we built the interstate highway system. In the 21st century information economy, we need to invest in our information infrastructure.”

Comcast has made Net Neutrality a buzz word recently with reports that the Cable Internet provider was blocking software on its network. The software in question is BitTorrent, a popular Peer-to-Peer program, however the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) reported other software may be targeted as well. Seth Schoen of EFF said, “Comcast is forging TCP RST packets which cause connections to drop (a technique also used by Internet censorship systems in China). These packets cause software at both ends to believe, mistakenly, that the software on the other side doesn’t want to continue communicating.”

Charlie Douglas, a spokesman for Comcast said “We have a responsibility to manage our network to ensure all our customers have the best broadband experience possible.” he continued with “”Comcast does not block access to any applications, including BitTorrent.”

According to Senator Clinton the Internet “does not decide who can enter its marketplace and it does not pick which views can be heard and which ones silenced. It is the embodiment of the fundamental democratic principles upon which our nation has thrived for hundreds of years.” If a large ISP like Comcast alters traffic on its network to disallow certain products than it may now be time for legislation that protects the integrity of all Internet networks.

Recently Verizon was in the news for similar reasons. A pro-choice abortion group named NARAL attempted to create an opt-in SMS news alert group and was blocked by Verizon Wireless. Citing that it is company policy to block political views that it considers “highly controversial”, the company took steps to prevent its network to be used for SMS news alerts by the group. Although Verizon Wireless backed down 24 hours later due to public outcry, it is still clear that something needs to be but in place to prevent this in the future.

Senator Clinton spoke out in concern for Internet neutrality when she co-sponsored the Internet Freedom Preservation Act in 2006. This act, also referred to as the Dorgan and Snowe bill was intended to protect small businesses and consumers from ISPs offering large businesses better pricing on connectivity and gouging smaller customers. Although the bill was never passed, it has been reintroduced in 2007 again as the Internet Freedom Preservation Act. This bill if passed will amend the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Angie Hill asked:

GM quality car parts are the ones that make up every GM vehicle. With such important functions to perform, it is a must to keep them properly maintained.

GM suspension bushings are basically used to connect the various moving arms and pivot points to the chassis and other parts of the suspension. These can be found in many locations on the suspension system. These bushings often take the form of an annular cylinder of flexible material inside a metallic casing or outer tube. They might also feature an internal crush tube which protects the bushing from being crushed by the fixings which hold it on to a threaded spigot.

GM suspension bushings can be made from different materials such as natural rubber and urethane compound. Natural rubber is specially with high tensile strength and excellent stability at low temperatures. Natural rubber suspension bushings require no lubrication, isolates minor vibration, reduces transmitted road shock and operates noise free. Polyurethane or Urethane suspension bushings, however, increase the performance handling characteristics of the vehicle since urethane is a firmer material then rubber. Polyurethane can be as soft as a rubber band or as hard as plastic. GM suspension bushings should be replaced if they are cracked, elongated, oil saturated, or worn. Looseness, cracks and off set bolts are the most common signs of bushings in need of replacement.

Equally important as keeping a vehicle’s suspension at its best is giving the best maintenance for the the vehicle’s manual transmission. And the best GM part to do just that is the GM clutch kit. The GM clutch is a subcomponent of the manual transmission system. Its function is to engage and disengage the engine to the gearbox and transfer torque to the vehicle’s transmission in split-seconds.

A GM clutch kit is composed of a clutch disc or a clutch friction disc and clutch pressure plate. Some clutch kits however already have pilot bushings or pilot bearings included. The pressure plate is consist of a clutch plate, springs, cover and release fingers. There are two types of pressure plates namely the diaphragm-type and the spring-type. The clutch disc is a metal disc that directs the flow of power between the engine and the transmission along with the pressure plate and the flywheel. Regular clutch discs are lined with asbestos which is the same material that is used in brake shoes and pads to achieve friction. A clutch with better materials used for friction and stronger springs to go with it can give faster and harder launches, quicker shifts, and much better durability. A GM clutch kit basically has the components needed to restore clutch performance. With a complete GM clutch kit, all damaged components can be replaced all at once so that they can function and fit well together.

cristi ion asked:

The bilberry bush is a well ramified bush with a 10-15 cm height. The parts used in phytotherapy: the leaves and the fruit.

Pharmacologic action: hypoglycaemic, diuretic and disinfectant for the urinary tubule, anti-diarrhea, anti-hemorrhagic.

The bilberry bush is generally a bush that grows in the wild and the attempts of cultivating it that have been undertaken for its remarkable qualities have not taken the shape of vast plantations due to profitability reasons.

The active principle, that is myrtilline, also called vegetal insulin, makes sugar decrease from the blood. In order to enhance the efficiency of the tea, bilberry leaves may be associated bean pods and mulberry tree leaves. Our recommendation is that the tea should be drunk sugar-free or saccharin sweetened.

Diabetes treatment is not possible without this plant!

The compositional structure of the bilberries provides them with anti-infectious properties. They are recommended for curing enteritis, cystitis and the circulatory disorders. They are anti-diabetic and have got effects upon the visual acuity.

The tannin content provides an astringent action and rushes the proteins contained in the cells of the digestive tract mucus; it rushes even the proteins of the pathogen flora, thus diminishing the action of the toxic and irritating substances.

Jams, fine jams, wine; liquor can be made from bilberries in the house pharmacy, as they are both food and medicines:

* the jams and the marmalades for curing chronic diarrhea. The recommended administration is one tea-spoon three times a day. Bilberries are also recommended to children in order to get rid of rickets.

* the bilberry wine one tea-spoon shall be given to children and one small glass to grown-ups three times a day. It should be taken before the main meals.

1. As for convalescent people, a minimum 10 day cure with fresh bilberries or with any of the available fruit preparations is recommended.

2. As for low immunity individuals, a 20 day cure with bilberry fruit or with a tincture from its leaves is recommended.

3. As far as pulmonary tuberculosis is concerned, consuming 150-200 grams of bilberry fruit three times a day within a 30 day cure will help for a quick recovery, as this cure is associated to the drug treatment.

Synthetically speaking one may say that the bilberry bush as a medicine plant is useful and efficient in treating the following illnesses: diabetes, oral pharyngeal diseases, anorexia, burns, bronchitis, diarrhea, eczemas, oedemas, and podagra.

Natural treatments and application procedures:

1. The bilberry leaves tea:

The infusion is made from 1 tea-spoon of bilberry leaves scalded in 250 ml of boiling water. 2-3 mugs a day should be drunk. The tea must not be sweetened in case of diabetes people.

2. The tea made from bilberry fruit:

It is an anti-diarrhea tea, being made from 2 tea-spoons of dry fruit boiled in 250 ml of water for 5 minutes. The tea should be left for 10-15 minutes in order to become an infusion. 2-3 teas a day should be drunk.

3. The bilberry tincture:

100 grams of bilberries shall be macerated in 1000 ml of alcohol for 15 days. One tea-spoon of tincture diluted in a small glass of water should be taken before each main meal. It is recommended for treating diarrhea and scorbutus.

4. The tincture made from bilberry leaves:

This one is recommended to diabetes people. It is made from 20 grams of broken up and mashed bilberry leaves, which shall then be macerated in 100 ml of 70 degree alcohol.

5. The powder made from dry leaves:

It is made from ground dried up fruit. One knife pitch should be taken 3 times a day. It should be kept under the tongue for a while and then swallowed with a bit of water.

6. The tea used in external treatments:

It is made from a handful of bilberries boiled in one litre of water until its volume drops to half of it. This tea is recommended for rinsing ones mouth in case of pharyngitis, stomatitis and aphtae, for washing eczemas, in compresses for treating hemorrhoids.

7. The wine:

It is made from 1 litre of wine where 50 grams of mashed bilberries will have been macerated for 8 days. The recommended treatment is to have it before the main meals.

Eric Castro asked:

What is it that makes Galapagos islands so amazing during September?? Being this month the peak of the Dry Season, a lot of unusual features are seen within the islands’ environment.? For example, who would expect a barren and desert-like habitat in the middle of the tropics, or who would expect animals not found in other tropical places thriving so well amidst volcanic islands?? For those that take the plunge and see the underwater wonders of the Galapagos islands Marine Reserve (largest one in America), you will be surrounded by tropical and subtropical species of fish, sea lions and penguins…where else on Earth can you encounter this?? While on land, September offers our guests unique events such as the pupping season for sea lions, blue-footed boobies with chicks in their nests, albatrosses with juveniles, migrant birds from northern latitudes, and due to the presence of cool waters the highest chances of encountering cetaceans (dolphins and whales).?

The dry weather makes walking on the islands quite pleasant, as temperatures reach levels no higher than 24?C-26?C (75?F-79?F).? Water temperature averages at 20?C (68?F) and if you want to feel more comfortable in the water (and of course, stay longer) we recommend that you bring with you a shortie wet suit.? Days tend to start cloudy, but the thin layer of clouds usually disipates by mid morning as the heat of the sun burns off such low moisture clouds.? Wind is common through this month, and seas are moderately strong (windbreaker, long sleeve shirts or sweatshirts will make you feel comfortable).? September is a wonderful month to be in Galapagos islands.? Nature enthusiasts, wildlife connoiseurs, photographers, families, and all will experience the most amazing tropical desert, no matter how bizarre this oxymoron sounds. Historically, September is also the time we conmmeorate Charles Darwin’s visit aboard the H.M.S Beagle, which dates back to 1835.? In September the travelers will surely leave Galapagos islands satisfied.

?

Overall natural events:

Peak of the dry (gar?a) season

The air temperature reaches its lowest levels at night (19?C-66?F)

Galapagos islands Penguins show remarkable activity on Bartolom?. Swimmers and snorkelers will be delighted with penguins active at the surface or torpedo-like while underwater.

? Sea lions are very active. Females have reached estrus stage, and so harem-gathering males are constantly barking and fighting. Shore fighting is heavy. Western and central islands are the most active ones in terms of sea lions’ activities.

? Most species of sea birds remain quite active at their nesting sites.? Common encounters with dolphins and whales.

Eileen Fleming asked:

On November 15, 2005, Senator Clinton stood on the Jerusalem side of The Wall and was quoted in Ha’aretz, expressing support for The Wall because it “is against terrorists” and “not against the Palestinian people.”
Senator Clinton did NOT visit the Little Town of Bethlehem in Occupied Territory, to see what The Wall has done to the Bethlehem economy. But I have.
On New Years Eve Day 2005, I visited a family who had just rebuilt their home in Dasheish, one of three fifty-eight year old refugee camps in Bethlehem.
The Habib [not real name] family had rebuilt on the very same spot after the Israeli Defense Force/IDF blew their former home up without reason and without any compensation. The usual reason given for home demolitions is for the building of The Wall, but the Habib residence is deep within the Dasheish refugee camp, and The Wall is at least three miles away. Mr. Habib told me that in 2004, the IDF banged on his door and informed the family that their home would be demolished within fifteen minutes. The family all got safely out but their home was but a memory a few moments later.
“No one in our family had ever been in any trouble with the Israeli government before and no family member had ever been arrested. They picked us to be an example of the power and control that Israel has to deny basic and inalienable human rights,” Mr. Habib told me without any bitterness.
What impresses me most every time I go to Palestine, is that every Palestinian I speak with all have the most forgiving spirits and unflappable patience. I thought of Senator Clinton’s inaccurate and insensitive remarks about The Wall not being against the Palestinian people, and wondered what she would say about Palestinian homes being destroyed without any reason at all.
An Uncle down the stairs from the Habib’s also had his home blown away on the same day. Relatives took them all in, for the poor in Palestine take care of the poor and don’t look to the government to do what people of good will, will do automatically: care for the widow, the orphan, the ill and the prisoner.
When ever I need a taxi while in Bethlehem or Jerusalem, I call Sam. He can comfortably transport eight and has an excellent sound system. Sam is an Orthodox Christian in the Syrian Church and has a gorgeous wife and two beautiful kids. Sam has VIP papers which enable him to chauffeur the Patriarchs around town without as much hassle as a regular Palestinian would have to endure at the checkpoints.
Sam, his wife and I rode to the Ben Gurion Airport, three hours prior to my 1 AM flight home on January 5, 2005. We talked a little but mostly we listened to the music of Bob Marley. When we arrived at the checkpoint at the entrance of the airport, Sam rolled down his window and smiled at the young soldier and said, “Shalom” but it sounded more like “Salaam.”
Sam’s VIP pass meant nothing to the soldier and we are all ordered to disembark and pull out all the luggage. My passport was demanded without a smile and Sam was led into the interrogation room while his wife and I stay out in the cold trying to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Another soldier examines and probes the van as he thoroughly looks for b-o-m-b-s. The paranoia I see in many Israeli’s has got to be, some kind of holocaust hangover blinding them to the fact that the oppressed have now become the oppressors.
After Sam’s van is thoroughly examined for b-o-m-b-s, I received my passport back marked with a red sticker upon it. Back in Sam’s van his wife expertly removed the sticker and all the glue from my passport. The sticker brands one as having come through occupied territory. Sam informs me that my third degree would be airport securities territory and that was why the soldier never asked me any questions.
Sam smiled wryly as he told me, “This is what the Nazi’s did to the Jews before the Holocaust when they made them wear the Star of David. They marked them as the enemy. Now anyone who knows Palestinians or visits occupied territory gets a sticker on their passport to label them as friends of the enemy.”
Bob Marley and the Wailers erupt through the speakers:
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up
Don’t give up the fight.
My luggage had been filled with Arabic nonviolent literature but Sam cautioned me to leave it all with him to avoid the extra hassle it could cause me during the routine questioning by airport security.
I left everything with him that I could get on the Internet but kept books, a CD and a DVD.
Sam warns me on what I shouldn’t say when I undergo my interrogation from the inquisitive employees at the Ben Gurion Airport.
While in Bethlehem I shared with many about my experience of having my computer confiscated by EL AL employees at JFK Airport, during my pre-flight checking in process. Every Palestinian told me “don’t worry about it.”
But every American I spoke with during my time in Israel and Palestine, freaked out when I told them about El Al confiscating my lap top for over an hour before I boarded the plane at JFK for my second trip to the Holy Land. Every American believed that they had downloaded my files, read my emails and perhaps even injected a Trojan into my soft ware. Those Americans had fallen into fear and paranoia, but Bob Marley and the Wailers is the way I choose to go:
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up
Stand up for your rights
Get up, stand up
Don’t give up the fight.
I had no fear of any airport security and I was determined I would answer honestly every question and keep smiling. Every employee I encountered smiled back at me and nobody asked me any ‘explosive’ questions. While three different young women examined and swabbed every item and surface in all my luggage I experienced frisson: the chill in the thrill of the rush you experience in a moment of delight, excitement or fear.
A young lady examiner came upon the book from the Holy Land Trust conference I had attended December 27-30, 2005 entitled: Celebrating Nonviolent Resistance.
The young examiner never looked my way, but she read the cover and scanned all the pages most thoroughly.
I wondered if perhaps a few seeds of thought were left germinating in Tel Aviv that night, but I forgot all about that when I landed in JFK fourteen hours later.
I had crashed for five solid hours out of the eleven hour flight. I awoke to vivid images of The Wall that remain brutally fresh in my mind.
In my minds eye, I still see the concrete boa constrictor and electrified fence that divides, separates, humiliates, dominates, controls and denies inalienable human rights to every Palestinian.
When I landed at JFK Airport, Terminal Two to wait three hours for my connection home, all I could think about was The Wall and all the injustice’s I had witnessed during my second of sixteen days in Israel and Palestine. [My first 16 days are documented in my first book, "Keep Hope Alive"]
In January 2005, every local, taxi driver and would be terrorist knew all the many ways around the concrete boa constrictor and electrified fence which had enormous gaps, holes, and other ways to get around checkpoints and avoid The Bethlehem Terminal which divides the sister city of and from Jerusalem.
The Israeli government and Senator Clinton both claim The Wall is all for Security. I know better.
The concrete boa constrictor and electrified fence is a master plan to divide, separate, humiliate, dominate, control and deny inalienable human rights to the indigenous people of the Holy Land.
In Palestine and the Unrecognized Villages there are olive trees that were rooted centuries ago, for olive trees can live for thousands of years, if they are not plowed down.
Twenty five olive trees can support a typical family in Gaza, the West Bank and in the Unrecognized Villages,
Where every little child knows the names of the ancient olive trees,
And they always be,
Names of mommys, sisters and favorite aunts and uncles,
For the olive trees are a member of their families.
In 1948, 20% of the total population of the Holy Land were Christian. Today they number less than 1.3% and continue to shrink fast.
Palestinian Christian roots go back to the first century when Christ promised: “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS: THEY ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD.” [Matthew 5:9]
At The Terminal in Bethlehem, upon the thirty foot high Wall, a hundred square foot sign from The Minister of Tourism hangs and proclaims in Orwellian logic: PEACE, PEACE, PEACE.
“Peace, peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace.”-Jeremiah 6:14
For twelve days around Christmas 2005, I lived in the Little Town of Bethlehem in occupied territory. For twelve days I walked “through streets that were dead” [Bob Dylan] in the morning, noon and night and everywhere I did go, shops were closed, restaurants empty. A few locals would be around and tour buses would quickly come and go at the Church of The Nativity.
But stores remain closed and restaurants empty because tourists don’t want to see, hear or know about occupied territory.
The Terminal is not The Way tourists in buses and taxis go;
The Terminal is the way only Palestinians and the curious go,
Who want to know what’s really going down
In the Holy Land:
Which is in pieces.
Mr. Presidents, I plead, please tear down the concrete boa constrictor and electrified fence which has been deemed ILLEGAL by the International Court of Justice in the Hague.
Mr. Presidents, please imagine what a wonderful world it would be if you would plant olive trees and build playgrounds and construct bridges of community and global neighborhoods.
The Way to security is knowing ones neighbor, and ones neighbor is ones sister and brother,
For everyone is a child of God.
To be blessed with Peace we must resist evil with good and God has already told us what is required: “Act justly, be merciful and walk humbly with your God.”-Micah 6:8
“And the best you can do is forgive.”-The Traveling Wilburys

Strut Mount Bushing: Key to Volvo Drive Comfort and Performance

John Garett asked:

Swedish automaker Volvo is one of the industry movers able to start the about-face from the blast-and-cast school of sports wagon manufacturing. Making room for passenger comfort in performance vehicles, Volvo cars feature an integrated suspension setting that boasts of a best-in-class drivability. Composed of a number of STRUT tower braces and STRUT links, the Volvo suspension assembly is incorporated to the car chassis, which facilitates even weight transfer along the car suspension. With the Volvo STRUTS all braced up for chassis flex during high-speed turns, the Volvo frame is strengthened and makes the car resistant against body roll.

The Volvo STRUT tower brace unifies the car’s STRUTS and sway bars. Collectively, these bars and towers form a frame within the car frame and absorb chassis flex, sparing the car cabin from excessive roll especially during hard cornering. Newer Volvo models come stock-fitted with a STRUT tower brace. Older Volvos can have their suspension setting unified with a simple drill-and-bolt procedure. Because the front suspension turns left and right during steering, front STRUTS are mounted and require no drilling, while rear struts are drilled on to the car chassis.

Volvo rear and front STRUTS are designed to take the brunt of chassis flex. They are steel braces built for durability and can even be reused. They are mounted on heavy-duty chrome shaft MOUNTS to withstand stress. Front STRUT MOUNTS, however, need to have pivot points to allow the front wheels to steer. STRUT MOUNTS at the head of the Volvo suspension assembly have rubber joints with BUSHINGS and bearings to provide a flexible coupling. Front STRUTS with a rubber coupling are used on compact Volvos that have a McPherson STRUT assembly. This type of STRUTS can also be used on the rear end of the car if it is capable of a four-wheel drive. In most cases, fixed chrome shafts are used on rear STRUTS to make the car better equipped against chassis flex.

When the Volvo hug curves, stress is absorbed by the STRUTS and flows down the mounting points. The chrome shafts of the rear STRUT MOUNTS dampen the stress, while the rubber portion of the front STRUT MOUNTS are susceptible to wear out its BUSHINGS and bearings in the face of chassis flex. While the shaft MOUNTS can accommodate the rerouted chassis flex, the BUSHINGS and bearings can give in and reduce the flexibility of the pivot points. On account of the usual stress that the Volvo front STRUT braces meet, STRUT MOUNT BUSHINGS and bearings are suspension assembly parts that necessitate regular maintenance.

A worn out STRUT MOUNT BUSHING can make steering hard and negate the cabin comfort that the Volvo suspension provides. It results in erratic steering and makes a creaking and popping noise. Even at cruise speed, a busted MOUNT can rear its ugly head in the form of excessive play in the suspension. This can break the rubber portion of the MOUNT and snowball into disproportionate bounce and front STRUT collapse. In most cases, the creaking noise precedes the erratic steering, and is one way to tell if the Volvo STRUT MOUNT BUSHING has gone past its peak performance.
