Mantra asked:

Against Batista.

In other words, why did Castro start the Cuban Revolution?

Comments:

  1. America had been using cuba as a party lodge and disrespecting cubans, treating them badly. America was also ripping Cuba off, they were charging unreasonable amounts for their goods.
thats what i think was a few reasons. not sure if main, but i think it was mainly because Castro wanted Cuba to be independent

  2. He was a young lawyer, fighting cases for the poor and against the official corrupton and vicious oppression of the Batista dictatorship which was hand in glove with the mob, drug running, prostitution and gambling. He and his brother Raul led an unsuccessful uprising in 1953 and on release from prison he fled to the US and then to Mexico to organise anti-Batista activities. Returning to Cuba he organised guerilla activities from the Sierra Maestra mountains. Batista’s Cuba was such a vicious police state that Castro was able to recruit followers from all walks of life and in December 1958 he had the military strength and popular support to overthrow the regime. He threw the mob out, and nationalised American business interests which had supported Batista, much to the annoyance of power brokers behind the US government.
