Jordan Christopher asked:

Well Hillary certainly did gain some degree of experience during the Bill Clinton years in the White House. She learned the art of media misdirection, the ability to double cross any bridge when she came to it, and the ability to deny the past if it is the politically expedient thing to do.

Where does her training come from, President Bill Clinton of course? Last night in his whirlwind tour of small town America in North Carolina on behalf of his wife he claimed that his Clinton years as President were the best years in “Modern American History.” I thought it was up to historians to make that determination but clearly Bill Clinton has already written the history books.

These were the best years in modern American history? If the Clinton years were the best years in modern American history then why doesn’t the public agree? In 1992 Clinton was elected with the smallest winning percentage in modern American history only 43% of the vote, tying Richard Nixon in 1968 for that dubious distinction.

By 1996 Clinton still failed to capture half of the vote winning 49%, but one half of the eligible voters were so disgusted with politicians they didn’t even vote. That means Clinton won with less than 25% of the eligible voters. Does that sound like the most successful presidency in modern history?

What happened during those Clinton years when Hillary was serving as assistant president according to her resume and campaign claims? It seems as if Bill Clinton had an epiphany and figured out how to out Republican the Republicans. Clinton became the first Democrat to be the darling of the business community as first the poverty stricken were victims of the Clinton epiphany, then the minorities, then the immigrants, and then labor unions, the core of the Democratic party.

Clinton slammed through the NAFTA Free Trade Agreement, with the help of his wife the First Lady, that led to the loss of millions of American jobs, a transfer of the production of American goods and services to foreign countries, and the failure to set in motion controls and testing that would protect Americans from poor quality, unsafe and dangerous foreign products.

Welfare and poverty programs were victims of budget cuts while immigrants, legal and otherwise, were denied benefits and legal representation. Prison populations increased rapidly from the law and order attitude of the president to the point that the death penalty was extended to cover many new crimes and actions such as the Waco FBI attack on a religious sect resulted in the deaths of 86 men, women and children.

Clinton ordered a bombing attack on Baghdad, Iraq just six months after taking office. Several times during the Clinton presidency Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the World Trade Center 9-11 bombings and worldwide terrorism network that would haunt us until this day could have been captured by the USA but each event was bungled by the administration. Is that a sign of the best presidency in modern American history?

Clinton maintained the military establishment although the Soviet Union was gone and there were no more wars. He courted the Republican business community with tax breaks, trade agreements, and other favors throughout his two terms. When it became necessary to cut government expenditures to balance the budget the Clinton White House approved eliminating $5 billion in educational spending to repair crumbling schools and rejecting a proposal to extend health insurance to 10.5 million uninsured children leaning on Congress to back his rejection.

Of course there is also the personal actions during the Clinton presidency like Jennifer Flowers, Monica Lewinski, Paula Jones and Whitewater to name a few that disgusted the public to the point of impeachment of the president. Only three times in our history have impeachment charges been brought against a president. Just twice in our history did the House vote for impeachment and send it to the Senate for trial. The two cases were Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999. Clinton was acquitted after the trial on a tie vote.

This was the Clinton presidency that Bill now calls the greatest of modern times and that Hillary says was her training ground for presidential experience. It also led to her election to the US Senate and to her failing to disclose $24 million in Bill’s income over a three-year period (2004-2006) not to mention their joint income of $109 million

In the eight years since he was president Bill and Hillary earned $109 million including lucrative consulting contracts and six figure speaking engagements, hardly a sign of the people’s candidate. What companies can afford to pay over $100,000 to hear him speak? It is doubtful many struggling non-profits are on his itinerary. This is what makes the Clinton presidency the best in modern history?

One can only hope the traditional Democrats will see how they have been duped, the labor unions, immigrants and minorities will see how they have been taken for granted, and the general public will see how they have been used. Can we really afford eight more years of double talk, double crossing and double dealing at the highest levels of our government? If this is the legacy of the greatest presidency of modern times then I believe the last thing we need is experienced people like Hillary who were running the country through those years.

A Makeover for the Hillary Clinton of "yesterday"

James William Smith asked:

I walked into Dunkin’ Donuts two days before what would be a very close New Hampshire primary. As I was ordering my egg and cheese on a plain bagel (toasted), I glanced down at the newspaper stand near the counter. The Boston Herald had a front page headline that morning which exclaimed: “She’s So Yesterday”. The picture under the headline caption showed the face of an aging Hillary Clinton. Her picture was accompanied by an image of the vinyl record of the Beatles hit “Yesterday “.

Rush Limbaugh had done a somewhat similar story on Hillary Clinton several weeks ago. He had questioned whether people in this society would vote for an aging woman for President who had wrinkles in a culture of perfect faces and slim and tight figures. At the time I figured that coming from Rush Limbaugh, this was an attack from the right of the political spectrum on Hillary Clinton. Now I am beginning to think that he may have been on to something.

However, when I read that newspaper headline, I realized the trouble the Clinton presidential campaign is in against the much younger candidate, Barack Obama. In fact, these tabloid political attacks on her may now have reached the point of making the entire “Boomer” generation a potential thing of the past.

This has touched a little too close to home with me. I never thought I would say this but allow me to give the Hillary Clinton campaign some unsolicited advice in order for her to capture the younger voter of today from Barack Obama. Here is my ten point (tongue somewhat in cheek) makeover for candidate Hillary Clinton, a person whom the Boston Herald newspaper refers to as “So Yesterday”.

1. Get your husband (Bill Clinton) off of the campaign trail. He talks mostly about himself. He never received 50% of the vote in any election he has won. The two Presidents for the price of one approach makes people uncomfortable. The back to the future approach does not work. He looks like a relic and makes you both look like yesterday’s news. Have him advise you quietly behind the scenes. He can be heard but not seen.

2. Keep your smiling daughter (Chelsea) on the campaign trail. She makes you look like a good mother. She reminds voters that you could be the first female elected President. She makes you look less programmed and more human.

3. Look and act like a real person. Everything in your campaign appears scripted. All your responses look like they are measured and calculated to appeal to the latest poll numbers. Those spontaneous tears the other day may have been the reason for your margin of victory in New Hampshire. However you can’t expect to cry the day before the next primary election and have it work again.

4. Hope that you win the Democratic primary and run against Republican Fred Thompson in the fall. He is so “last week” while you are only “so yesterday“. I don’t think you will have to worry about winning the youth vote in that general election.

5. Stop running primarily on the issue of your experience. The voters are furious at politicians in Washington D. C. They think that things “inside the beltway” are broken and need to be fixed. Today’s voters are mentally storming the gates of their government. They don’t want someone to tell them they are an insider and know how it runs. The point is that they don’t like how it runs.

6. Really embrace the issue of change. Create a plan to change the government. The plan should be bold. The plan should mention the first 100 days and what you would do as the first female President. Don’t consult polls. Tell us what you honestly want to do. A politician that does that would certainly represent real change.

7. Insist that Barrack Obama tell everyone what he would change. What does his plan consist of anyway? We have heard much about “hope” and “change.” We have not heard many details. If you do not make him outline his plan, you can bet the Republicans in the general election will do so instead.

8. Stop using the phrase ” I have the battle scars to prove it” in reference to your experience in the 1990s with Universal Healthcare. It makes you sound like you should be honored with a pancake breakfast at the local war veterans post.

9. Say WIFI , Bluetooth, Xbox and GPS often. It doesn’t matter that you may not know what these terms mean. Just make sure you say them. Also, make sure you watch plasma and HDTV and have an Ipod. Do not mention the Beatles, Cher, Mary Tyler Moore, or Woodstock at any time.

10. Keep your chin up (don’t let it sag). Hold your head high (don’t worry about face lifts) and stop exercising to the Richard Simmons show every morning on those VCR tapes. We use DVD players now and Richard Simmons is “totally yesterday.”

If you do all these things, you still may not win this election. However, your campaign would feature a forward-looking real person, who has energy and who addresses the voters’ desire for real change. You could even transform yourself into the new age candidate of “today”.

At the very least, with this type of makeover, the newspapers would never again show you under the tabloid headline: “She’s So Yesterday”. For a Baby Boomer, that is fast becoming an important victory in itself.

Imperato Calls it Again: Giuliani Says Clinton Made ‘mistake’ With ‘93 World Trade Center Attack

I1connect asked:

Rudy Giuliani charged yesterday, that former President, Bill Clinton, made a “big mistake” when he failed to see the first World Trade Center attack as an act of terror rather than a mere crime - one that set the stage for even bigger and bolder attacks culminating with 9/11.

“The United States government, then President Clinton, did not respond,” Giuliani said, ticking off terrorist attacks that followed, including the bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa and the USS Cole in 2000.” [Osama] bin Laden declared war on us. We didn’t hear it.”

Bill Clinton’s only response to the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Africa was to launch several rockets to Afghanistan. Ironically, this was done the day after his Grand Jury testimony was released regarding the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Clinton launched no military attack against al-Qaeda and allowed the group to grow under his watch. According to Imperato, Clinton was “sleeping at the wheel.”

In a previous i1connect article, “i1connect news: Imperato on Hillary, Obama, and Giuliani”, Imperato stated the following:

“While Giuliani was mayor, and Bill Clinton was President, they swept the first WTC attack under the carpet, and nothing was done to protect our country from allowing more terrorists into New York City to study the World Trade Center Towers, and eventually kill over 3,000 innocent Americans,” stated Imperato.

Since 2005, Imperato has pointed out that the 9/11 attackers came in under the watch of Bill Clinton and Rudolph Giuliani.

When asked about Giuliani’s current criticism about Bill Clinton, Imperato responded, “Giuliani criticizing Clinton is like the pot calling the kettle black. The fact is, Giuliani let the terrorists come into New York City; he allowed the terrorists to study the structural details of the World Trade Center Towers, and he allowed the attacks to happen.”

Imperato then went on to challenge Giuliani on his views on 9/11.

He stated, “If Giuliani wants to talk tough about 9/11, then I would like to see him do so against me in a public debate. The fact is that the media has been too soft on him, and has not asked him the right questions pertaining to his involvement or lack thereof in helping to secure New York City pre 9/11.”

Imperato has previously called for a debate with Giuliani. To date, the Imperato camp has not received any response.

The past week has been difficult for Giuliani, as his South Carolina campaign chairman was indicted on drug charges. He was questioned about Newsday’s story that he was forced out of the Iraq Study Group and reports revived about his employing a priest who was suspended on charges of sexually abusing students.

In terms of poll numbers, Giuliani has been underperforming, and is no longer the clear frontrunner he once was. In addition, since the announcement of Michael Bloomberg’s departure from the Republican Party, more and more Americans are now open to electing an independent to the White House.

America’s leading independent candidate for the White House in 2008, Daniel Imperato, on the other hand has been seeing support grow with key campaign visits in New Hampshire, Alabama, Massachusetts, Texas, and New York.

Giuliani’s attacks on Bill Clinton were largely seen as an attack on fellow Presidential Candidate, Hillary Clinton, who has been leading most polls amongst Democratic candidates.

Previously, Clinton has come under fire from many critics, including Imperato, for not being able to manage her household.

“If she couldn’t manage her home, then how is she supposed to manage our country? The fact is that Bill didn’t like what they served at home, so he went out to eat,” stated Imperato in a 2005 release.

Although not covered by the mainstream media, these types of concerns could resurface and raise questions among American voters about Hillary Clinton’s ability to lead our nation.
