We stand alongside the citizens of Burma in their peaceful protests. We urge you to oppose a violent crackdown on the demonstrators, and to support genuine reconciliation and democracy in Burma. We pledge to hold you accountable for any further bloodshed.

05America fought England for their independence so why do they support the ‘One China’ policy?

Mike asked:
Bush openly supports the ‘One China’ policy. Is he being two-faced and just saying that to keep China happy or has he forgotten what America went through to gain it’s independence? You’d think, at the very least, he’d keep his mouth shut about it, but what annoys me is he’s kissing Hu Jintao’s butt. Taiwan even has it’s own DEMOCRATIC government which left the mainland to get away from the COMMUNISTS. Surely such an act deserves OPEN SUPPORT from America. Or has America changed it’s view on Democracy and Communism? I doubt that! America should say it supports Taiwan regardless of whether it wants to be independent or not. What ever happened to FREEDOM (or Liberty as the Americans like to call it). If America can’t give support, why doesn’t it just keep quiet? When will American governments stop worshiping the almighty dollar or only caring about their own interests and start doing THE MORALLY RIGHT THING?
Maybe some people have misunderstood my question. It’s supposed to ask ‘Why does America openly support the ‘One China’ policy instead of keeping quiet OR supporting Taiwans freedom to choose?’ I’m not say America has to help or support Taiwan!
