Ugly Betty star America Ferrera has already shown her support for presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, who, if she wins in November 2008’s elections, will mark an important milestone in U.S. history by becoming the nation’s first female president. Because of the weight of this cause to Ferrera, she clarified to the press that it is not Clinton ’s being a woman that made her decide to support the presidential candidate.

“I think it’s really exciting that she’s a woman and that the face of politics has been changed because there has been a viable woman candidate,” America Ferrera, who plays Ugly Betty in the highly anticipated ABC series, said in a conversation with Glamour magazine’s political blog Glamocracy. “But I wouldn’t support a candidate based on whether they’re a woman or a man or whether they’re black or white. I think that voting for a woman because she is a woman is not really progress.”

Ferrera admitted that she took the time to think about the reason why she should support Clinton , and eventually realized that Clinton is the one who “deserves our support, because she is going to be an amazing president.”

The 23-year-old Emmy Award-winning actress also admitted that there may be a number of reasons why Clinton should be the next president, but the most pressing reason is that Clinton has enough dedication when it comes to “achieving things that are about enfranchising the most disenfranchised people” in America.

Moreover, Ferrera said that it “is a forgotten art, especially in this current administration.” She believes that Clinton is “an incredibly intelligent woman, and she has fought really hard battles; she has won some and she’s lost some. She stands up for what she believes in and she puts herself in the line of fire time and time again for things [no matter how] unpopular they might be.”

Recently, Ferrera got a chance to conduct an interview with Clinton , in which she was able to get to know more of the former first lady.

“As a person, she’s incredibly engaging. I was so taken by how lovely and warm she is. The truth is, politics is a hard game, and to some degree everyone has to have a game face that you put on to face attacks and challenges,” Ferrera said. “I did feel very lucky to meet Hillary and feel that warmth and that genuineness. This is who she is; it’s not an act.”

America Ferrera, star of ABC’s award-winning dramedy series Ugly Betty, has wholeheartedly shown her support for presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, as Ferrera now serves as the national co-chairman of “HillBlazers,” the presidential campaign’s youth outreach program.

“This election is too important to stand on the sidelines, especially for my generation,” the Ugly Betty star told People. “I believe that Hillary Clinton can turn this country around. I am confident she will be a champion for young women and men across the country.”

Ferrera launched her acting career with Real Women Have Curves, her film debut. Upon landing the role of titular character on Ugly Betty, she has established a solid following, and has been honored with the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical, beating out fellow nominees Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Mary-Louise Parker. As a result, Ferrera has been recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives for being a role model for young Hispanics. She was also chosen by Time Magazine as one of the top artists and entertainers in last year’s “Time 100: The Most Influential People In The World” issue.

Moreover, Ferrera isn’t the only young female celebrity endorsing the former First Lady of the United States . Amber Tamblyn, who formerly starred in Joan of Arcadia, has joined former America Ferrera in Clinton ’s youth campaign as national co-chairman. The two have previously worked together in the film, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and are to work together again in Las Vegas as part of this Saturday’s Nevada assembly.

Twenty-four year old Tamblyn considers Clinton as “the only candidate who has the experience to bring about change.” Returning the compliments, Clinton said she was deeply moved to receive the young actresses’ support.
